Caitlan's Cancer Fight

Hi, my name is Lehanne and I am fundraising for my niece Caitlan Rice. Caitlan is about to take on the biggest fight she will ever face. It has been a whirlwind week but I will start at the beginning, as best as I can. Caitlan has not been feeling well for about a week or so. She went to her doctors on Monday Sept.16th, he thought she might be anemic so sent her in for a full blood panel. Caitlan got a call from him that night at 7:30 telling her to get to the hospital immediately, they were waiting for her. In the ER they ran more tests and a scan then put her in a private room where she waited all night until the next morning when a Specialist arrived. Tuesday morning she was given the devastating news that she has cancer. Accute Leukemia. I won't get into details but her numbers were gravely low and they needed to give her blood right away. Things then got worse. There is only one treatment to fight this and she would need to go to Vancouver (Caitlan lives on the Island), and get a bone marrow transplant. It's a very dangerous procedure BUT our Caitlan is young, normally very healthy and active, a fighter and has big plans for her future.

Our family is full of pride, usually we are the ones helping others, not asking for help. But my sister, Catherine will not leave Caitlan. Caitlan went to Vancouver by ambulance Wednesday. She will be there for a minimum of 6 weeks. Even a sniffle will delay her coming home. Catherine found lodging for 80.00 a night but is a 45 minute walk to the hospital. Over a minimum of 6 weeks it adds up to a boatload of money, plus I would like to get her closer to the hospital as she does not drive. On top of lodging there is daily meals, Catherine needs to eat so she can stay strong and help Caitlan fight. As too many of you know, bills do not go away just because you have cancer. Caitlan will not be working for quite some time and the last thing she should be worrying about is her bills.
