Caitlyn Dog Park Eagle Project
Donation protected
Hello, I'm Caitlyn, and I am asking you to help me fund the building of a dog park for my community.
I am a Life Scout with Troop 4325 in Gotha, FL, and this is my Eagle Project. Every day I walk our dog Bella around my neighborhood. There are over 100 townhomes and condos in our community, so none of them have back yards to let their dogs run. And there are lots of dogs on walks every day in our neighborhood.
When I joined Scouts BSA as one of the first female scouts in the country last year, I set a goal to become an Eagle Scout. So as I approached the rank of Life Scout, I started looking for things that I could do for my Eagle Project. When I heard my neighbors talking about how far away the closest dog park was, I knew I had the project I wanted to do.
My plan is to take the empty field next to our neighborhood tennis court and make it a safe enclosed space for the dogs to run and play. I mapped out an area that is adjacent to two fences. This helps me save in construction costs and allows us to use the dollars we raise to add more features for the park. My goal is this: We will enclose a 40'x90' space. It will have a double gate entrance area to enter and depart from safely. I will lead volunteers to install two concrete pads and benches, as well as pour concrete for the entrance area. We will install two large swing gates for the lawncare company to bring in their lawn equipment and also large enough for the power company boom truck if it needs to service power poles for the adjacent tennis court. Working with the HOA, we will install about 75 feet of piping from the community well to give the park a water supply for the dogs.
Last week when checking out some other local dog parks, I took Bella with me. When I released her from her leash she ran in circles for a good ten solid minutes....sliding in the leaves, reversing direction, etc. She finally jogged over to the water station and drank lots of water....then came to say hello before she wandered off again. I look forward to helping my neighborhood have a place to take their dogs to experience that same level of joy that Bella did that day. Please help my by donating to this project.
I hope to complete fundraising and begin construction by July. I am making plans for the construction to continue safely even if we are still facing Covid-19 restrictions by spacing out the work and the workers so that people remain safely apart.. All funds will go towards the construction. Anything left over will be given to the homeowner's association to help maintain the park. Thank you for supporting Bella and I in getting this project completed!
