Caleb's Eagle Project - Church Refurbishment

Hello everyone,

I'm Caleb Liu, a Life Scout of Troop 120 in Fremont, who has had almost a decade of Scouting under my belt. Scouting has always been my compass, shaping the person that I am today. Now my dream is within reach: achieving the elusive rank of Eagle Scout. One of the final requirements of the Eagle Scout Rank is the Eagle Project which requires a scout to plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community.

My Eagle Project centers around refurbishing one of the patios at my church, Forerunner Christian Church (FRCC). This will involve cleaning and completely repainting two concrete benches, raising a large garden bed, and nurturing the regrowth of plants in the area.

Scouting has taught me the importance of leadership, teamwork, and stewardship. Through this project, I hope to embody these values and inspire positive change within our community. To make this vision a reality, I am reaching out for your support.

I chose to do my Eagle Project for my church because I grew up in this church and it has fostered growth in all areas of my life. FRCC is like a second home for me and I have made countless memories here.

This transformation aims to improve an area of past frequent use by the church to host events and gatherings, mainly before the pandemic, such as barbeques and festivals. The refinishing of the seating in this area will make it much more enjoyable and convenient. And the rebuilding of the flower bed will add more aesthetic looks to a sort of lackluster area. Another benefit is that this project will drive much more attention to this area which will make it once again a high-use area by the church. Overall, this will make the church look more organized overall and improve the condition of something that hasn't been touched for a while.

In more detail, this project will be split up into two parts. The first part is cleaning and pressure washing the concrete benches with a pressure washer which will also strip off the old paint. With time between each coat, a new layer of primer, paint, and topcoat will be applied to make it look as good as new.

Secondly, the flower bed will be refurbished in a couple of steps. The current dirt will be churned and leveled out with new dirt. Existing plants will be combined with new water resistant plants to be aesthetically appealing and existing weeds will be pulled out. A weed barrier will be installed to prevent more harmful plants from growing and a new layer of mulch will top it all off.

Your support is invaluable in making this project a reality. Contributions will directly fund the purchase of materials, supplies, and tools needed to rejuvenate the patio. These include but are not limited to, paint, a hose and hanger, fertilizer, mulch, dirt, food and refreshments, brushes, and rollers. Excess money and materials will be donated to the church.
