Caleb's Fight to a FULL Recovery
Donation protected
Our 37 year old son, Caleb, is fighting his way back from the unimaginable....a massive stroke. On December 5, 2021, my husband and I received a phone call that we never, in our worst nightmares, dreamed we would get that day. The call was from one of Caleb's friends, telling us that Caleb had been taken to the hospital (he had been living in Fort Myers, Florida for the previous 6 months) and they were sure he had suffered a stroke. Within 10 minutes, we received another call from a nurse at the hospital, requesting some medical information on Caleb, and letting us know that he was being prepped for emergency surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain.
The nurse was quite blunt in expressing how serious the situation was, and encouraged us to get to Florida as soon as possible.
The morning of December 6th, we stood in Caleb's hospital room, weeping at the sight of our son lying motionless in a bed as the ICU nurse showed us pictures of Caleb's brain and explained the extent of the damage that had occurred. Caleb had sustained a massive ischemic stroke in his right hemisphere, and the images were starkly terrifying.
Those first few days we clung to our faith in God, and we were upheld by the prayers of hundreds of family members and friends. The doctors and nurses were extremely cautious in giving us any hope those first days, but then......miraculous things began to happen!!!
Little by little, we began to see evidence of Caleb's left side "waking up", which meant that his brain was finding new pathways to send the signals needed to that side of his body. His speech had become much more clear, his mind was as sharp as it ever was (he had many of the nurses cracking up from his sense of humor!), and he is now at the point where he is in a rehab facility and is making amazing progress literally every single day! One PA seemed almost shocked when she looked at those first scans of Caleb's brain compared to more recent ones. To quote her, "His brain is healing!"
He realizes he still has a long, tough battle ahead of him, but he is determined to conquer every obstacle. There will be months of therapy in his future, but we firmly believe that there will come a day when we all look back on this from the top of the mountain, with the valley behind us!
Rodney and I have started this GoFundMe account to provide money for the therapy sessions, and other medical costs that insurance will not cover, and to purchase an evacuation wheelchair for Caleb to give him peace of mind in the case of an emergency.
So many of you have held our boy up in prayer, and for that we are eternally grateful. We now ask, if you feel led to do so, to give any donation amount to provide Caleb with the financial support that he is going to need over the next several months.
From the bottom of our hearts, we also ask humbly that you share this link with friends and family.
Thank you so much, and may God richly bless each and every one of you!!!
