Calhoun County Community Center

Hi friends,

The 1982 Foundation was formed in August 2021 for the express purposes of supporting opportunities for the children of Calhoun County WV. I grew up in Calhoun County 40 and left years ago. The county was full of life and energy ....and I owe who I am and what I have been able to experience in my life to my roots in Calhoun. So I want to do for this generation of kids what others did for me. This includes offering exposure to activities, experiences, learnings and life to augment the traditional educational system via programs such as child care programs, summer camps, and recreational activities. To this end The 1982 Foundation's first project is to develop the old abandoned Calhoun County High school which is 100 years old this year into the Calhoun County Community Center. This is a huge project and will be supported through a private endowment of $1,000,000, grants and fundraising with total costs estimated currently at $3,000,000.

We are launching our "Friend of a friend of a friend......" campaign. This campaign is focused on those who have a connection with Calhoun county but have developed friends, business relationships, and support networks in other areas. So I am asking you to consider supporting our endeavor to bring not only opportunities but necessities of life such as a summer food program, day care, head start and the opportunity to develop entrepreneural ventures in Calhoun County so kids do not have to decide between leaving the county/state and making a good living. I am asking for your support in two ways 1) a contribution to our GoFundMe account and 2) that you also send a similar email to your network as one of my friends....and ask them to do the exact same. Let's see how long we can make the "Friend of a friend of a friend of a friend...." chain. We have registered at the state level as a non profit charity and are filing our papers with the IRS for 501(c)(3) non-profit status. We expect that this will take a few months but as soon as we have the number we will pass it along. And providing the status is granted which we see no reason it would not as it is fully charitable in nature, the tax exempt status would be retroactive to the date of establishment.
