Calhoun County Sheriff's Office K9 Project
Donation protected
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to announce an addition of a K9 unit in 2021. Funding efforts are underway towards the approximately $25,000 needed for the start-up of the program. Donations will be put towards the purchase of the K9, training of the K9 and the handler, specialized vehicle equipment, gear and funding towards sustaining the program in its first year. The K9 will provide an invaluable tool in investigations and apprehension of individuals involved in the manufacture and distribution of illegal narcotics in our county. Illegal drug use has direct ties to increased crime rates in areas which include: burglaries, thefts, child abuse, domestic assaults and other violent crimes. The K9 unit will also be utilized to assist other surrounding agencies per our existing current mutual aid agreements. In addition to narcotic investigations, the K9 will be utilized for criminal tracking and apprehension, handler protection, evidence recovery, premises search, locating lost individuals, and educating the youth in our communities.
