Concerning Callie...

I recently adopted Callie the 4 month old golden retriever you see pictured. She has been an absolute joy, with tons of puppy energy, always in the mood to play. The night of November 22nd I came home to find something was very wrong with her. Her breathing was labored, she was vomiting, and could not stand up on her own. I rushed her 45 minutes to the nearest emergency vet. The vet was immediately concerned with her condition and recommended she be admitted. A chest x-ray revealed she had a hernia due to a birth defect in her diaphragm. This was causing her organs to push on her diaphragm, resulting in her difficulty breathing. The vet presented me with a choice: opt for emergency surgery, or, let my 4 month old puppy die. Callie was kept on oxygen and IV fluids overnight in the ICU and underwent the life-saving surgery on the 23rd. The surgery was a success and after several days in the ICU, she is doing better. As some of you pet lovers may know her surgery and ICU stay were very expensive. In just a few days Callie's medical bills have piled up by the thousands. Callie is my best friend, my baby, and always brightens my day. I could not imagine my life without her. If you are able to contribute in any way for current and future medical bills, Callie and her family will be forever grateful. I appreciate you taking the time to read this as we try to bring Callie home. Thank you all so much.
