Calvary Horse Camp 2021
Donation protected
My name is Katie Johnson, founder and director of Calvary Horse Camp. Horses and kids have been my passion my whole life, which is why I am excited to introduce you to Calvary Horse Camp -- a Christian horse camp for urban foster girls from the ages of 10-13, to be held at the Grant County Fairgrounds in John Day, Oregon. The dates are Jul 19-23, 2021.
The camp is designed for twelve foster girls from urban areas in Oregon. They will arrive at camp the afternoon of Monday, July 19. Each girl will be paired with her own horse to feed, water, and care for.
Throughout the week, the girls will receive horse safety lessons, attend walk-trot classes, hear inspiring words from a great speaker, have small group time, games, story time, worship time, and many more exciting activities.
On the final day of camp, the girls will participate in a "fun day" with lots of games that will be played both on horseback and on foot. Then they will depart for their foster homes in the afternoon following lunch and a final ceremony.
The camp will be staffed with an all-female team of volunteers. Adult staff will be with the girls at all times, while an outstanding group of teen and young adult staffers will lead all activities and build strong friendships with the campers.
This is our third year of hosting camp (we started in 2018 but had to cancel in 2020 due to COVID-19), and we cannot wait to have some alumni return as well as welcome in some first timers! This camp has already had a profound impact, not only on the students but on the local community, and we cannot wait to see what God has in store for the future of our camp!
Our goal has always been for the girls to be able to attend camp completely cost free, which means we rely on donations and support to continue to help keep camp running as we have fees for facilities, supplies, food, and transportation. With the restrictions in place due to COVID-19, in-person fundraising is difficult and has left us about $3,000 short this year.
Please help us give these girls an exciting opportunity of a lifetime by donating now. However, if you are unable to donate, you can still help by joining the many who are supporting this ministry in prayer. Thank you!
