CAM Presents "the boba show"

The Chinese American Museum in Los Angeles, CA is excited to present the boba show: history, diaspora, and a third space, an exhibition that is scheduled to open February 10, 2023.
On the surface, boba provides a textural element many of us consume with teas and flavored drinks. Behind these tiny tapioca pearls of joy, the boba show exhibition will explore boba as a significant facet of Chinese America and unravel a deeper story of migration and diaspora.
We have completed the research, selected the artists and created plans for the exhibition. We imagine the space to be filled with explosions of larger-than-life art works ranging from 3-dimensional sculptures, digital media, floor-to-ceiling murals, and beyond, all created by a group of multi-ethnic artists from across Southern California. However, we need your help to reach our fundraising goal to make this exhibition become a reality.
Boba has become a part of mainstream culture. For several decades, boba did more than raise our beverage game. It created safe spaces where Asian American youths could truly call their own by bringing cultural familiarity, joy, and comfort to a table outside of their households.
Featured artists in the show include:
- Boone Nguyen
- Crisselle
- Dezcjon
- Ellie Chen
- Jason Pereira
- Nana
- roldy aguero ablao
- Samantha Tagaloa
- Vivian Shih
the boba show will elevate boba beyond an addition to our confectionery drinks. Your support towards the exhibition will help celebrate boba and tell its story from its humble beginnings to its role in transforming American food culture and the spaces we call home. With your support, every sip of boba milk tea can unfold a new chapter of Chinese American history and culture.
