Cameron get lightweight leg
Donation protected
Hi my name is Amanda Hassall. June 1st 2024 my son Cameron went and bought his dad a trike, it was his dad’s dream. Cameron was riding down our road and slowed right down because a lady was walking over our driveway. Cameron pulled onto the drive at no more than 5mph, then tragedy struck. The trike went into a skid and Cameron was hurt badly, at first all we could see was his nose was broken and he had lost a tooth, however the lady that was walking her dog stated she was calling an ambulance, at which point I looked at what she could see. Cameron had suffered catastrophic injuries to his leg! It took the ambulance 45 mins to arrive and that’s after calling 999. Cameron was rushed to hospital and he was oblivious to anything going on, he was told that is ankle was intact but he was sent for an X-ray regardless at this point we found out his ankle was smashed into hundreds of pieces. We were also told that if 1cm of broken he would have lost his ankle on the drive. Cam was taken to a ward and was operated on the following day, he had a leg brace fitted but he still needed more surgery. Cameron’s next operation was on 4th June, it was 13.5 hours long, muscle was taken from his back and skin grafts from his thigh all in a bid to save his leg, it wasnt to be both the muscle and skin grafts from his died. This resulted in Cameron losing his leg below the knee, this broke me as his mum, Cameron was in hospital for about 10 weeks maybe more. Everything seemed to be progressing ok but from September things became really bad, Cameron was seen by many professionals but was ignored, he was given antibiotics every week, however Cam was becoming more unwell, we had asked if he had an infection and we were told no, but he had something that made his bone soft it was infected, in January 2025 Cameron presented himself to Leicester Royal Infirmary and somebody listened to him. Cameron was in hospital another week and he had to have further surgery to remove more of his leg. We were originally told he would have a prosthetic leg within six months, unfortunately Cameron now has to wait even longer. What I am trying to do is raise funds for Cameron to get a lightweight prosthetic leg, and physiotherapy, this is well out of my price bracket, so I’m asking for your help to get Cameron up and able to walk with his son, something that frustrates Cameron greatly.
Any help will be appreciated greatly.
Much Love Amanda aka Cameron’s mum xxxx
