Put the Zing back in Byng! Double your Impact now

Our charity is the registered owner of Camp Byng. We also own and lease 63 other camps and meeting places in BC. We exist to provide properties for the use of youth groups and to protect them for future generations.

We are raising money to re-open Camp Byng which was recently closed by its former tenant operator Scouts Canada. Your contribution will help us keep this 100-year-old treasure operating for the benefit of our youth.

Your contribution will be used to operate the camp and offset the usual camp expenses, such as utilities, groundskeeping, insurance, repairs, security, and maintenance.

210 forested acres to explore. 1,200 meters of ocean foreshore to beach comb. Commercial kitchens. Dormitories and lodges. Rustic cabins. Stylish cabins. Tenting areas. A spiritual center. Low-ropes course. An archery range. Basketball courts. A campfire circle. It’s a youth group’s dream, but only if it’s open.

Byng can accommodate 4,000 people for a major event and in a typical year provides between 8,000 and 10,000 camper-nights of youth oriented camping. It needs to be kept open to continue to provide the quality outdoor experience young people crave and which you may fondly remember from your time in this camp or others like it.

Double your impact? We have a benefactor who will match all contributions made by Dec 31st up to $30,000. That gives us $60,000 to start next year. Think about that! Think about the smiles you’ll put on young people’s faces as they enter the camp gates and see the splendor of the camp and all that’s there.

All contributors will receive a tax-deductible contribution receipt, which will put a smile on your face. The list of contributors is completely private and protected, as per GoFundMe policies.

We were very sorry to see Scouts Canada close their operations at Camp Byng, which required us to intervene. However given that their national camp operations have incurred over $3.5 million in total losses across the past two fiscal years alone, it is somewhat understandable.

Given the mandate of our charity and as the owners of the property, it is now our responsibility to ensure this 100-year-old iconic camp is well maintained and remains open for use by Scouts, Guides and other like-minded youth organizations. Now, and for generations of youth to come.

Who is asking you to re-open and support Camp Byng and protect it for future generations? A registered charity that understands that camps like this are precious and can never be replaced if lost. Land values have become far too unaffordable to buy for camps, and the ever-increasing demands for land to be developed for housing make land this size a rare find.

Our leadership team is an accomplished, credible, experienced group that is 100% volunteer, 100% non-paid, and 100% committed to our cause. All will ensure that every penny of your donation and any matching donations go directly to the property.

Our treasurer receives daily reports of your contributions to the “Put the Zing back in Byng” campaign. Let’s make her whoop out loud every day until Dec 31st!

Remember those American pharmaceutical company drug advertisements? The ones where half the ad is legal disclosures about side effects etc?. Here is our legal disclosure.

Disclosure Note: 4 years ago, Scouts Canada launched a civil claim against us in the BC supreme court concerning ownership of a number of our properties including Camp Byng. We look forward to the court's determination. We remain the only registered owner of all of our properties involved in the claim. A copy of our registered land title for Camp Byng showing that we are the sole registered owner can be found here:
