Camp Parkview Fundraiser
Hi, my name is Caitlyn Ye and I'm looking to raise funds for Camp Parkview. Established in the late 1970s, Camp Parkview takes place on Vashon Island at the Burton Conference Center. This annual stay-away camp for adults with disabilities is a unique experience that allows for fun, recreation and togetherness in the lovely Northwest outdoors. Over 60 campers with many types of disabilities come to Camp each year, along with 40+ Volunteer Counselors. Campers stay in accessible cabins with private bathrooms and are able to participate in accessible recreation such as boating, swimming, arts and crafts, singing, nature paths and an fantastic all-camp talent show.
Every year the campers and their families look forward to attending Camp Parkview, because there is truly nothing like it. All the volunteers are passionate about making this experience special for every camper, and the energy is really great/supportive. They provide hundreds of hours of supportive care, leadership and friendship for the campers. Many of the campers have physical and intellectual disabilities and require assistance with activities of daily living, which counselors are trained to provide.
Due to the pandemic, many people have negatively been affected financially, socially, and emotionally. This is especially true for people with disabilities because many of their support programs have had to be cancelled or moved online. Unfortunately, Camp Parkview did not happen last year as well. Camp Parkview is even more necessary after the pandemic because it gives social and emotional support to these individuals, by allowing them to connect to others. I especially felt that returning campers and volunteers alike, missed their friends after two whole years of not seeing each other. Lasting relationships are made as campers and counselors return every year, some even for decades. Through volunteering, I was able to see how happy the campers are to be in such an inclusive and positive environment. The funds I raise would 100% be donated to Camp Parkview. This would allow campers who cannot afford camp be able to attend and/or help purchase items for campers. I really hope that with this small donation, Camp Parkview becomes more accessible to those who have not been able to experience it yet!
Every dollar counts and if you are not able to donate, I highly recommend volunteering!
