The Perthes Kids Foundation Australia & New Zealand Ltd is established to advance social and public welfare by supporting children afflicted with the rare, chronic childhood condition Legg- Calve- Perthes Disease. By fundraising to provide Camp Perthes annually, we also aim to raise awareness and connect and advocate for families that often endure the long process of treatment and recovery in complete isolation. We also encourage international research into this rare condition.

I am a sufferer of Perthes Disease or a Perthes Warrior to those who know us. I have had 3 hip surgeries, the last being a total hip replacement at just 15. That is not many compared with some!! I am now 17 in grade 12. I am doing this so I can give back to those who have supported me through this difficult journey. I am grateful to have this opportunity to share my story with others who have suffered like me.

Each year Perthes Kids Foundation holds a Camp in QLD (warmest weather) during the September school holidays. The organisers target the activities to ensure that all the kids can participate. Many will be in wheelchairs or on crutches. When diagnosed, these kids are told they cannot run, jump, play contact sport. This can be the case for years… Camp Perthes allows us to feel like “normal” kids for once. We all understand what the other is experiencing. We can share our stories and support each other. Sometimes we may cry together but we always share a laugh,

The volunteers are parents, grandparents, family members or older Perthes Warriors who have given up their time to make these camps the best possible experience.

Every dollar goes directly to the camp funding. Transport and entry to take the kids to a theme park, art supplies, games and prizes.
