Camp Rise - UPLA Summer Camp 2021

Update: You’ve raised enough to support 2 StreetLeaders’ salaries this summer. That’s a total of $4,600! We have 15 StreetLeaders employed this summer who will each earn up to $2,300. We’ve updated our goal to $6,900 which will cover another StreetLeaders’ salary for their work as camp counselors this summer.

How your donation will help:

Sponsor a StreetLeader: UPLA pays local high school students to be the tutors, teachers, and counselors at Summer Camp. StreetLeaders who work full time this summer will earn up to $2,300. Your donation will allow us to employ our 14 StreetLeaders as they lead our 60 K-6th grade students. 

Did you know: UPLA also provides leadership development, job training, and guidance through the college application process to our StreetLeaders - who will be first-generation college students.

That's the vision at UrbanPromise and we strive to fulfill that vision by offering year-round programs for children and youth. All of our programs (Summer Camp, AfterSchool) are absolutely FREE of charge for elementary students to attend, which is why we fundraise regularly. And, we pay our high school leaders (known as StreetLeaders) to work as the camp counselors, tutors, and mentors for the elementary school students enrolled in our programs, which is another reason we fundraise so regularly. Our goal is to raise enough to cover the cost of summer camp, which starts Tuesday, July 6th, 2021 and ends on Friday, August 6th, 2021.

UrbanPromise Los Angeles is located in and serves the Canoga Park community of LA. Our students typically come from lower-income households or attend lower performing schools. Our high school students grew up and live in the same neighborhood as our campers, and all of our StreetLeaders will be first-generation college students.

Our Summer Camp, Camp Rise, aims to:

• Prevent summer learning loss through daily classes (Reading, STEM, Bible, etc.)
• Provide a safe, nurturing environment for families to bring their children
• Employ local high school students
• Support first-generation college student and ensure they make it on campus this fall
• Give students an opportunity to play and socialize in-person
