The Democratic Republic of the Congo education system is plagued by low coverage and poor quality. 3.5 million children of primary school age are not in school, and those who attend school, 44 percent start school late after the age of 6. Poverty has camouflaged some part of the country, for instance the province of equateur. School conditions in this part of the country remain very precarious. Children have limited access to school due to the bad condition of the infrastructure. 80% of the households go miles away walking to attend school, although the condition is still bad. Sometimes when it rains, children cannot attend school... In addition, the population of equateur is among the least educated in the DRC. This province has 25% of uneducated children in primary school, 37% of high school and 1.1% university level. Therefore the province of equateur enrollment and literacy rate are the lowest in the DRC. Nelson Mandela has rightly said education is most powerful weapon which can change the world.
