Everyone is struggling during this COVID-19 crisis, but none moreso than our freelance musicians whose lives and finances have been decimated. The saxophone community has benefitted immensely from the talents of collaborative pianists such as our own LIZ AMES. As a non-salaried staff member at the University of Michigan who relies so heavily on student recitals, juries, and projects—now largely cancelled or indefinitely postponed, she can truly use our help. I am hopeful members of our profession can offer anything to help her recoup major income lost during this difficult time.
An emergency fund for part-time staff was established by the UMichigan President, but, at most, this will provide up to 25% of lost wages over the next two months - hardly anything to help such an artist.
In addition, all of her outside Duo recitals are cancelled. This included concerts in the UK, Paris, and New York City.
Any assistance can be of help!
