Campaigning to end racism and Misogyny in sport

In 2021, The Three Hijabis led a viral campaign to ban racists from football after the horrific racial abuse targetted at three young Black England players after missing penalties in the men's Euro final against Italy.

Our campaign, was supported by over 1 million people in 48 hours who supported a vision of a game that was kinder and more inclusive. We understood the way in which racism in football was simply a mirror to the racism many of us experience in society.

Our campaign made headline news worldwide, made our Prime Minister at the time and the Football Association (FA) take notice of what we were asking in relation to extending banning orders for those perpetrating racism on or off the pitch, as well as the role in which social media companies can play in tackling racial abuse.

Since then we also launched a campaign to tackle misogyny and violence against women and girls in football in coalition with EVAW and Level Up, targeting the FA and Premier League in the role it plays as sporting institutions with immense power to role model and enforce changes in policies, training and support to players from academy level and beyond. This campaign success led to the Premier League introducing mandatory consent training to all Premier League clubs.

Our passion has since become to make sport and cultural spaces inclusive and joyous for everyone to participate in.
