Camps International- Ecuador 2024

Hi I’m Devon and I’m fundraising to go on an expedition in Ecuador to serve humanitarian aid. I will be living and working alongside the local people for 4 weeks and will experience first-hand the issues faced by rural communities, whilst making a positive and lasting impact. I’ll contribute to ongoing sustainable projects that help support the communities and protect the biodiverse environment in such an amazing country.
Some of the sustainable projects include working to develop the communities infrastructure, such as constructing a neighbourhood recreational area or improving the infrastructure at a local high school. As well as this I’ll be helping to tackle the issue of waste in the natural environment, by participating in beach clean ups and working on rubbish management projects.
Another project includes the regeneration of the Amazon Rainforest. As the communities in the Amazon develop, deforestation is increasing at an alarming rate. I’ll work alongside local people to understand the complex relationship between the environment and community development. I’ll assist with important environmental projects by collecting saplings and replanting them in the jungle.
A third project will be helping with the security of food. In the rural highlands of Ecuador, food security is a key focus. One of the biggest sources of income for these communities is the sale of milk from their cows. During the dry season the milk truck can get around collecting produce with ease, however in the rainy season some of the dirt roads become impassable and many people can’t sell their milk as a result. I will get involved in projects such as improving road infrastructure to connect communities, creating organic gardens to increase local food production and constructing wood ovens for the community.
All my fundraising will help the communities of Ecuador by funding for the tools and resources for such amazing projects.
