Cancer Care Fund For Thomas Sledge

Hi, I’m Melissa Sledge. Thomas is my husband, my best friend, and my rock. We are a blended family raising 3 children together with their co-parents. Thomas is a stand-up person, a kind man, always putting in 100% into everything he does. He was always on the go, working on the house, going to ballgames, playing with the kids, etc. on top of building his career. Then one day he started feeling extremely tired all the time. His fatigue was to the point he could not recover his energy, even after long periods of rest. In May we started the doctor visits. By July, after many appointments with doctors, specialist/surgeon, after scans and a hospital stay we received news that he would need a major surgery. They had found several places of concern. Thomas prepared himself mentally for major surgery and then endured the most grilling pain I’ve ever witnessed. After surgery they were able to stage it —he has stage 4 colon cancer. More tests and scans in late August revealed the cancer had spread to his liver in multiple places. Chemotherapy would be the next step. After having his cancer removed and several weeks of recovery, he would need to start aggressive treatments. The treatment is four times stronger than originally planned with hopes to eradicate or shrink the tumors in his liver and control its spread to other organs. Most don't talk about how expensive Cancer can be. Even with a solid insurance policy in place there are items that insurance simply doesn’t cover. Genetic testing is one of those and is mandated for any kind of targeted therapy. It is hard for anyone to ask for help from others, especially financially, but we have fallen short of the cost of living. So I am asking for help with our basic living costs and our mounting pile of medical debt. We know everyone works hard for their money and times are hard for everyone right now but if you feel led to help please know that we appreciate you more than we could ever express to you.
