CANCER DAD-HELP 2 C DAUGHTER 4 XMAS
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Di. Some may know me from here and some don't. I've had others write GoFundMe to be with mother as she battled cancer.
The only other family I have and who practically raised me is my big brother Jim. Everything my friends love in me, came from Jim. He taught me everything scientific, historic, artistic, literature, cinematic. And so much more. I'm a peaceful, new waver, Beatles freak & book worm with a wicked sense of humor and the ability to love peace and brotherhood.
Jim, after a young marriage and young divorce, was single for a long while. Someone as smart, funny, and into cult movies, independent music and alternative shows, as he is, finds it hard to find someone who is like them AND LIKES THEM. I speak from experience I guess.
He remained single and then love gonged again. He practically raised me and therefore didn't really want kids, but that banger of that gong had a toddler.
We will call her Angel because she really is a little cutie. But even at one... Starting to walk and talk, my brother had to teach her manners as her bio dad (as she calls him) made her rude and crude. The bio-dad thought it was funny to teach her to curse, etc. After Jim and Angel's mother set up a house for the three of them, within two years, my brother had her reading, by five sending her "Aunt Dinah" pictures and thank you cards for every kindness.
He took a little girl living in a fatherless existence and made her the head of her class. He worked from home and was a stay-at-home dad of another man's child. Jim even home schooled her for a year. Science was everywhere. Math, too. He took a little girl with young and aimless parents and loved her. The same way he raised and gave me special tutoring and help in classes I didn't quite get until he made fun out of boring things.
After almost a decade of raising this child during her formative years, our mother got Cancer again. Then Jim's ex moved with the child to another state... about 700 miles away from him. And my brother moved to help care for our sick elderly mother.
He made survival money selling his beloved collectables and books and things on eBay. His main concern was really cooking, driving, being there for our mother as she fought her health battle!
The SAME DAY MY MUM TELLS ME SHE'S IN TEMPORARY REMISSION, (FOUR MONTHS OF NIGHTS I CAN SLEEP!! I thought) and I then find out that my brother Jim has gone to the hospital in EXTREME PAIN. That's only happened once before... and they had to remove part of a lung.
Jim going to hospital in pain was a big deal. Discovering he had to have his gallbladder out, the other health issues and now: cancer. A malignant tumor on his kidney that now needs to be treated.
Personally, my heart dropped but I couldn't take away his pain or worry. I always felt like his twin twelve years younger. Both sheep in the Chinese Zodiac (if you believe - which we don't) but damned if he wasn't a calm thinking Pisces fish and I that roaring lion Leo sister. Both Wednesday's children. Both born around nine PM at night.
And I love him as a brother, father, teacher, friend, roommate and best confidante.
Loving Jim and BEING loved by him has made me, over all....a better person.
Precious little had occurred to help him in the month or so, since Jim went to the E.R. And he was there for almost another month.... he finds out he's very sick... But CANCER Tops the list. What do they do?! Remove his gallbladder and send him home!!
With no insurance or regular job (taking care of our mum WAS his job), his car was not insured for months because food and utilities were more important. Now he is the one to be shown that his life has touched many others.
Today, with tears because he didn't want to worry me or those that love him to know yet, our mother told me they found spots on his lung.
I try to be the glue. I try not to worry. There is a GIN BLOSSOMS song from the nineties "Until I hear it from you", you may recall. It was about a relationship going sour as rumours were everywhere but the singer was not going to believe such talk, until he heard it directly from his girl.
My brother wanted to tell his closest loved ones that this is the deal and this is the plan in his own time and way.
Thanks for reading until the end....
What Jim needs:
privacy,
healthy food,
medicine,
disability
EXPEDITED HEALTH INSURANCE.
WHAT HE WANTS:
TIME.
Less pain.
Christmas with and gifts for the little girl he helped raise.
To visit with me (but that's my husband's GoFundMe for MY needs, a different fundraiser altogether!!)
It's never that simple, but your donation could help make a wonderful man (that life repeatedly kicked in the stomach) sooooo much simpler. Money was never important to us. We were raised on higher values. But money becomes important when it keeps you away from the things and people you love!!!
Every donation will be cherished.
Thank you,
Di Donovon, PROUD & LUCKY little sister of JIM LUMLEY
