Cancer doesn’t care that you are a 33-year-old, 2nd grade teacher with a 3-year-old daughter that needs you to be healthy. Cancer does not discriminate!
My dear friend Danielle Sims is a dedicated 2nd grade school teacher at Harvie Elementary. She is a high-energy person who loves teaching, football and being a mom. On October 30th, Danielle and her daughter were involved in a horrific accident, that resulted in multiple injuries and the total loss of her car. It was miracle they survived, considering the damages sustained by the car. While it was a horrible accident, we never imagined it would be a blessing in disguise. After the initial hospital visit, Danielle began to experience severe residual pain in her neck, back, along with numbness in her hands and feet. Initially, she was treated with medicine and physical therapy. She had minimal improvement and continued pain. Subsequently, during a following up appointment, her doctor detected a nodule on her thyroid. A follow up biopsy confirmed the worse Thyroid Cancer.
While the diagnosis of Thyroid Cancer is devastating, Danielle is not a stranger to cancer. Her mom died of brain cancer 11 years ago, and sadly, her father has recently begun treatment for Prostate Cancer.
As a Breast Cancer survivor, I understand the marathon ahead. I understand the emotional and financial toll that lies ahead as well. The surgery, recovery, co-pays, on-going tests, on-going treatment, baby sitters, transportation to appointments, time away from work. (Nobody factors in cancer treatment in their annual budget.) Danielle is strong and brave but, she is going to need help! Please join me in helping Danielle by contributing to her Fight Cancer Fund. Any amount is appreciated!
