Cancer fund for Melody Jackson

Melody Jackson, a 16 year old sophomore at Reeltown high school is currently in a battle for her life. Melody is a kind and gentle spirit that is so loved by her friends and family.

On Sunday July 30th Voni Jackson was told the news that no parent ever wants to hear, it’s cancer and it’s very serious. Those few words have torn her world apart. While Voni is feeling so many different emotions melody has been calm and reassuring her mother that she’s going to be just fine. Melody has found more strength than we have through the last week and we pray she stays positive and strong enough to fight this horrible disease. There are still so many unanswered questions but we do hope to have more answers in the coming days as biopsy results and PET scan results come back. Voni is a single mother that currently works as a housekeeper and collects her pay day by day. She will be in Birmingham at Children’s hospital with Melody for the unforseeable future so this go fund me and any donations will be a tremendous help with food, household bills and medical bills. They have already been so blessed with prayers, cards and donations this week but I’m afraid we’re in for a very long fight and need all the support we can give them.

Most people want to know what led her to take her to the Dr? Has she been really sick? The short answer is no but there have been a few minor health problems the last few months and until her diagnosis we couldn’t tie them together. Melody had a minor female issue but Voni was told on July 3rd that it’s normal and after a few test the diagnosis was hypothyroidism and uterine abnormalities. They had more test scheduled for August. Melody started band camp on July 17th and was really struggling to perform, on July 26th Melody was sent home early from camp and Voni took her the a local Dr and on Thursday she was diagnosed with Ecoli. On Sunday July 30th Melody was feeling worse so Voni took her to a Dr that her pediatrician recommended. When they arrived her oxygen levels were low so they did a chest X-ray where they found “spots on her lungs” she was then sent to Baptist south for a CT and the CT showed a massive tumor attached to her adrenal gland and many tumors in her lungs. She was then sent to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham by ambulance. On Monday they did a biopsy and put her port in. On Wednesday they did a MRI which showed 7 tumors on her brain. She had a PET scan yesterday and we are currently anxiously awaiting the results of that and the biopsy results. As a mother trying to find the strength and words to update everyone on Melody has been very difficult. At 2:30 yesterday her doctors delivered the most devastating news imaginable. Melody has adrenocortical carcinoma. It is very advanced and spreading quickly, incurable they said. Melody made the very grown up decision to start chemo in hopes to slow down the progression of her disease. According to the doctors we will be lucky to have just a few more months with our precious Melody. Please continue to pray for her miracle. I'm not sure how the world turns without her. Thank you all.
