Cancer Removal for Ladybug

Donation protected
Hello, beautiful friends and folks. Many of you have had the pleasure of meeting our best girl, Lady, over the years. Last week, we took her to the vet to check on a mass that had formed on her side and got the bad news that this is indeed a Mass Cell Tumor, which is cancerous.

There's good news though. Over 80% of dogs are cancer-free after a surgical removal of the tumor, and we think she has a strong fighting chance.

However, we cannot afford this surgery on our own, so we're asking for some support to pay for the surgery - I've attached a screenshot of the bill estimate below, for validity. Any bit you can contribute will help us keep this goodest gal at our side for many more years.

Some people know the story of how Lady came to us, but not everyone does. A number of years ago, a woman we much loved named Betsy Ashby passed away. Betsy helped to found ARF in Jackson Co and was a tremendous spirit who gave support to every animal that crossed her path, especially supporting the Jackson Co Animal Shelter. When we lost her, Brad and I promised that our next dog would be from the local shelter.

Fast forward a bit, and I spotted Lady on the Facebook page. I had a Labrador as a kid and she immediately reminded me of him, and I asked Brad if we could consider her. We were uncertain - she was a bigger dog than we were planning for at the time - but we decided to think on it a while. A few days later, we were driving home and spotted a cloud that looked wildly like her, down to the triangle ears. We took it as a sign that we should at least visit.

When we arrived at the shelter, they warned us that she was not particularly people-friendly. Lady had been kept outside her whole life and had been struck by a car two months prior. She had developed a wariness of people. They asked if we still wanted to meet her, and we assured that we did. Out back, I made sure to sit while we met each other, to be the least threatening as possible. Imagine our surprise when she IMMEDIATELY crawled into my lap and started kissing my face!

We knew then that this was the dog Betsy had intended for us, and we brought her home the next day (pictured above). She's been such a light in our lives ever since. I like to joke she is a "Dog OG", aka she thinks very doggy thoughts, does very doggy things, and all around is just a perfect example of what a Dog™ is. Her loving breed classification is Appalachia Yella-dog, aka heinz-57, aka Mutt. Many people have known and loved her.

This history tells me that she's a fighter and she wants to be with us as long as possible. We would be so so grateful to anyone who helped us support her, and I'm sure she would be too. Thank you in advance!!
