Cancer started the fight, I will finish it

We believe in the Power of Prayer so thank you for all the support of family and friends that have helped lift us up during this time. The battle is far from over though.

We spent six days at Singing River Hospital. When he went into the hospital one evening, one set of bad news just kept leading to another. Originally, Kyle was told at Merit Health in Biloxi that he had a really bad hernia. They gave him some medication and sent him on his way. When he arrived almost two months later at Singing River, they did a CT scan and told him that he wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Kyle has a big tumor that has completely obstructed his colon and has started growing in his abdominal wall and possibly into his bladder. It was too big and had too many risks to remove during surgery. Colon cancer, it's a really big pill to swallow on top of the other life changes that he will have to get used to. We had hoped to leave the hospital a day or so after but Kyle had formed cellulitis, so he had to be put on antibiotics. He had developed a cyst as well. So the Dr took him back to surgery to perform an I&D and drain everything out.

We have spoken with the Oncologist and will start Chemo treatments sometime after we get the initial visits out of the way. We pray that the treatments will be able to shrink the mass so that it can be surgically removed later. There is concern on whether this has spread to other areas of the body or if it's contained to just his colon at this time. We will not know what stage this is at till after we get started with the Oncologist and he can run more tests and do a PET scan. From what they could tell from the scans at the hospital it does seem to be local. We are praying that this is true and has not spread.

I have been asked how Kyle is doing and I have been asked how I am doing. Of course, that is a loaded question.

Kyle is doing as well as he can after learning that his life has been flipped upside down. He is trying to not be depressed but it does weigh heavily on his mind. Finances, his children, his wife. He prides himself on providing and taking care of his family and home, and now he will need the strength of family and friends to help him through this. He knows how rough chemo is going to be, so he is concerned about how his body is going to be able to handle these treatments especially since he has already lost a good bit of weight. Thankfully he has always been a fighter and we have a great support system.

I have faith that the Lord is going to use this to his will. It's not easy giving this to the Lord. I have cried and I am scared, but I am not angry. All things happen for a reason and I have to have faith and give it all to the Lord, it is in his hands. I pray for a sense of peace and calm as Kyra, Waylon and I go through this journey with Kyle.
