Cancer Sucks! Oran could use some help

My name is Janeen and I am fundraising for my son Oran Canfield. Oran is 22 years old and lives in Spearfish, SD.

Oran’s father, James, was diagnosed with colon cancer 2 1/2 years ago. The journey has been a long road for over two years between trips to Rapid City for chemo from friends, almost dying from several heart attacks two years ago at a chemo treatment and later being life flighted to Sioux Falls because a drug reaction shut down James’ kidneys.

Oran has taken James to the ER on numerous occasions the last few years and has been afraid to work and leave his dad home alone.

Oran started working part time at Burger King this Spring after encouragement that his dad would be okay while he was at work. His paycheck helped with the ever mounting bills.

Cancer is devastating because James has been too sick to work much the last three years. And the bills just continue to pile up.

The last 10 days have put Oran over the edge financially. He drove James to the ER in Spearfish on June 30th where they took him by ambulance to Rapid City Hospital. On July 1st they put James on hospice.

Oran called into work and has been by his father’s side everyday driving from Spearfish to Rapid City. The gas cost ate up what little money he had and he has been borrowing money to pay for the gas to see his dad in hospice.

Then on Thursday, July 7th, Oran came down with Covid and went to Urgent Care Friday to confirm. He has to quarantine for 10 days and will most likely miss his father’s passing. He also is unable to go back to work while he is sick, stressing his finances even more.

He has nothing in his bank account. I have helped with gas and groceries.

I am hoping to raise money for him to help with expenses for the month; rent, groceries, gas, etc until he can get back to work.

Also, the cost of cremation when James passes as well as a memorial party.

I will help as much as I can, but if you feel drawn to helping out Oran with these costs as well, he will be so grateful.

James has definitely been a huge part of Spearfish and is so grateful for all his friends he has made over the years. James is currently at Monument Hospice on Elk St in Rapid City as of July 10th.
