Cancer Treatment for 9 Year Old Evan

Kim, Sean and Evan Cairns are members of our Blueridge community. Kim is an active volunteer with the BPAC, and Evan is in grade 3 at Blueridge Elementary.

A few weeks ago, they received the terrifying news that Evan needed emergency surgery to remove a brain tumour. Surgeons successfully removed the medulla blastoma tumour, and thankfully the cancer had not spread. The best cure rates for this type of tumour are achieved through proton beam radiation and chemotherapy.

The Cairns family will head to Seattle on July 1st for 6 weeks of aggressive treatment for Evan. Thankfully, BC MSP covers the cost of this treatment which is not available in Canada.

Our community is gathering together to help cover the cost of accommodation, travel, food and lost income for Kim and Sean as they focus on Evan’s health away from home.
