Bringing Hope and Relief to Candy's Cancer Battle

Dear friends, family, and compassionate strangers,

I am reaching out to you today with a heartfelt plea for assistance. My incredible mother, Candice Purcell Mixon, whom most people affectionately call "Candy," is currently facing an immense challenge that has deeply impacted our family. Not only is she battling stage 4 breast cancer and bone cancer among other places in the body but she is also dealing with chronic back pain that has plagued her for years.

Let me share a glimpse of Mom’s journey and the hardships she is enduring. She had been preparing for back surgery to alleviate the chronic pain she has experienced for so long.
However, just before the surgery, devastating news came our way—cancer was discovered in her spine, tailbone, and hip. As a result, the surgery was canceled. She was sent for a PET scan where they found more cancer all throughout her body. We believe it started in her breast and spread from there. It has made its way into her bones, her skull, her lungs, her liver and pancreas. Her world has been turned upside down. Now, she finds herself confronting the formidable battle against cancer while enduring the constant pain in her back. The weight of these challenges has taken an immense toll on her physical well-being.

My mom, the kindest and most giving person I've ever known, is now faced with many challenges. The cancer has left her unable to work, and her passion for teaching painting, which brought her so much joy, has been put on hold indefinitely. She now relies on a cane to walk and experiences persistent discomfort that significantly affects her quality of life.

One of the overwhelming challenges we face is the cost of chemotherapy pills. These vital medications, crucial for her treatment, amount to a staggering $16,600 per month. While insurance and grants cover the majority of the cost, there remains a monthly expense of $3,300 that she cannot afford, even if she were still able to work. She will need these pills for the rest of her life. With her inability to earn a living, the financial burden has become challenge.

The chemotherapy pills are a lifeline in Mom's fight against cancer. They play a pivotal role in managing her condition, slowing the progression of the disease, and granting her precious time with her loved ones. By contributing to this campaign, you directly help secure these life-saving medications, offering hope and relief during this arduous journey.

My mother would never ask for financial help. She would rather literally die before thinking she had burdened someone else by asking for help. That is why I am asking for your support. No matter the amount, it can make a profound impact on her life. By donating to this campaign, you will alleviate the overwhelming financial strain and enable my Mom to focus on her treatment and well-being. Your kindness will give her the chance to fight her battle with cancer while experiencing some semblance of comfort and peace.

We are deeply grateful for your consideration and generosity during this challenging time. Your donations, thoughts, and prayers mean the world to us. With your help, we can empower Candy to face her challenges with renewed strength and resilience.

We will provide regular updates on Candy’s progress and how your contributions are being utilized. Please share this campaign with your network, amplifying our plea for help and increasing the reach of our fundraising efforts.

Thank you from the depths of our hearts for standing beside us as we support Candy in her fight against cancer. Your compassion and support provide a glimmer of hope in the face of adversity.

FROM MY MOM, CANDY…

For those who’ve ask….
It’s been a good week. Sweet Sophia is still hanging in there, sleeping most of the time. Laramie is healing and finally the pain from pacemaker procedure is lessening. I’m still using the cane, but the pain in my hip is almost totally gone. I’m claiming this lousy limp will somehow disappear also. God can do that, ya know. After 3 days of X-rays and having a map drawn on my chest with magic markers, I finally start my second round of radiation, this time on my breast/lung area. We’ll go to Columbia every day except weekends starting Monday and going through the middle of October.
My prayer is that all targeted tumors will shrink but especially those on tubes to my lungs, so that my breathing will be easier. I think I’ll then have more stamina. Right now, just sweeping the floor is a major task.
I actually painted a pillow cover this week. That made me feel good. We went inside a restaurant for first time in a while. That felt good too. And, I sit on the patio enjoying the hummingbirds and bumblebees on wonderful low humidity days like today.
I continue to have ‘the peace that passeth understanding’ and claim ‘by HIS strips, I am healed.’
Love you all
