Cancer Undone – Help for Sherri Clarke

The news came in right alongside the freshly minted year—cancer. That word—again.

Your heart sinks. Your mind refuses to believe it.

Just before Christmas, Sherri rang the bell after a year of treatment, clean labs for that entire year, and three clear PET scans. Today she's staring down Stage 4 Melanoma. In the oncologist's words, the disease has come back very aggressively and is present in multiple places throughout her body including metastasis to 15 spots in her brain. Cue whole brain radiation, oral chemo, and more tests. Life upended. Pet scans. CT scans. MRIs. This is not part of the plan. It's not part of any plan.

You guys know Sherri. You know Marc. They're the kind of people other people turn to.

But in everyone's life, the time comes when you are forced to lay down your strengths and recognize your weakness. The time comes when it's necessary to ask others to come alongside, to stand in the gap. You become vulnerable. It takes a special kind of courage to do that. They're learning.

No one should go through what Sherri is going through. And too many people do. One person is too many. One person going through the uncertainty, the fear, the financial devastation is too many.

Thousands go through it. So much so that cancer journeys have turned into statistics. But Marc and Sherri are not statistics. Marc and Sherri belong to us. We're their tribe.

We are here to gather, lift and provide. In short, to pray. To embody Jesus. To keep them from going under. We are here to divide their grief and celebrate their victories.

A few specifics:

Medical expenses
Currently, their out-of-pocket expenses are topping $40,000. Marc and Sherri are facing an avalanche of medical bills. This does not include any of their daily living expenses.

New job
Marc has recently taken a new job so he can stay with and be near Sherri while she gets treatment. Until now, they had to be separated while Marc worked and traveled back and forth from Spencer to Avon. He was wearing himself out. The new job is a great blessing and a perfect example of God providing for their needs along the way.

MRI July 5th
Sherri's treatment thus far has given her temporary relief from the tumors that were affecting her physically. Many have shrunk with treatment and the fine motor skills initially affected by the lesions in the brain have somewhat returned. She can write again as well as button her own clothing. But there are new spots and brain anomalies that are an ongoing concern. Another brain MRI on July 5th will determine treatment moving forward. For now, they stay the course.

They will be the first to recount their trust. They will tell you that they have nothing to lose that really matters. They will find the blessing in the hardship. But this is the reality: They are confronting mortality and living daily with the difficulty of undone tasks and bodily weakness and that's hard.

Will you be part of the answer that lifts some of their burdens so they can focus on Sherri's health?

If you will—cancer will not win. If you will, cancer will be undone and Marc and Sherri will win.

Every single day we live matters. Every single day we offer love matters. We can do this together. Would you be willing to share this post on any and all of your social media along with the go-fund-me link? Help us spread the news!

We will be offering regular updates on Sherri's progress. Would you consider a donation of $20? Would you consider $50? What about $100 if you're able?

Thank you to each and every one of you who donate any amount!
