My name is Katie Robinson, and I am a senior Fashion Merchandising major at Old Dominion University. Last August, my mother was diagnosed with a rare form of GBM Brain Cancer. This diagnosis came very suddenly and tragically as weeks later we were informed that it was stage 4 and would ultimately take her life. She fought hard for nine months exhibiting strength and courage beyond compare. Early on we began to refer to my mother as being Cancerstrong. It’s an expression that has turned into a lifestyle for my family. She passed away six months ago leaving behind an incredible legacy to follow. The name of this fashion show is #Cancerstrong because it is dedicated to those individuals and their families/loved ones that are Cancerstrong. This show is to celebrate with the survivors, honor those that have passed, and encourage others to spread awareness and raise money for improved cancer research. The American Cancer Society has predicted that over 1.6 million new cancer strands will be diagnosed and over 550,000 deaths will occur from cancer this year. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the United States, accounting for 1 of every 4 deaths.

I am hosting this fashion show as my senior project in hopes that we can raise money and overcome this hideous disease together. My goal is to raise $2,000 dollars for the American Cancer Society and host an event with at least 300 people in attendance. Please see the associated facebook awareness page & event page for more information. Thank you for your time and contributions.
