Candace Bishops Brain Surgery Recovery

As some of you may know one of my best friends mom is going into brain surgery on Tuesday morning April 26 to repair a CSF leak at NYU with one of the top neurosurgeons Dr. Paccione and Dr. Lieberman an Otolaryngologist who specializes in Rhiology, skull base surgery. Here surgery will last up to 4 hours with 3 main procedures being performed. After surgery she will be in ICU for part of the day to be monitored for any additional leakage, swelling, blood clots and infection. After she will head up to the 16th floor to a private room to recover in the hospital for 3-4 days. The first day she will be unable to move, walk or get out of bed and will be on monitors, catheters, ivs and severe pain meds. She will have stuffing placed up and in her nose for the first week to hold the tissue grafts that were used to cover the two holes in her brain skull in place until they begin to heal. She will head home after her hospital stay to start her road to recovery of up to 8 weeks. She will not be able to drive for the first 4 weeks of recovery and after her neurosurgeon has cleared her. She will not be able to lift her arms above her shoulders, lift anything over 10 pounds, no sneezing, coughing or bending, however she is able to walk around after the first couple of days and they highly recommend it.

She is a single mom of 3 girls and is the sole caregiver and provider, as well as maintaining her college education and finishing up her associates degree with high honors. I have set up a go fund me page to try and help relieve some of the financial burdens that will not be covered under her health insurance, as well as towards bills, food and everyday costs as she is unable to cook or work for the next two months. When cleared she will return back to work and finishing up her schooling. Any bit helps and would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
