Candace Lipischak, Fat Daug & Charles Préfontaine
Donation protected
On Wednesday, January 2nd, 2019, a fire broke out in the workshop/garage of Candace Lipischak and Charles Préfontaine in Otterburne. Both Candace and Charles are self-employed. Candace is the owner of Fat Daug-Hand Carved Antler Jewelry and is known for her visual artwork. Charles is a carpenter with his company Madera Construction.
The couple used their garage daily for their work. Candace used the garage as a workstation and to store her tools and materials as an artist. Charles kept his building equipment and other work tools in the Garage. Candace and Charles are also large-scale garlic growers and work a 1-acre garden every year. The fire damaged everything including their gardening supplies. Now, nothing but ashes are left after the fire burnt out.
Candace’s carving atelier is safe and sound and will be able to continue working in that sense but she has lost her big tools to cut up the antlers and lots her other tools as a visual artist.
Candace has a great passion for her métis heritage. She has devoted her time to upcycling used materials and turning them into beautiful art that we have gotten to admire or even wear as jewellery.
This fundraiser started to aid Candace and Charles in order to recuperate from this tragic loss. Luckily their insurance is covering a part of the loss but not merely enough to help them get back on their feet.
The funds raised will be used to replace some Fat Daug’s tools, Candace gardening tools and Charles tools, as well as the start of building a new garage/workshop.
Thank you, Merci, Marsi, Chi-Miigwetch for your prayers and support.
We will keep you posted if we get more details.
