Help Candace & Her Babies Recover From Transplant

Hi. My name is Jay. Candace is my lovely wife of nearly 20 years. We have 2 adult children, and 2 beautiful toddlers, ages 5 (daughter) and 4 (son). We usually live on a small homestead in East Texas. 45 days ago, partially due to Post Covid Syndrome (Long Covid), Candace's liver began to fail. She was hospitalized in the ICU and remained in the hospital for 22 days. She longed to get home to be with our youngest children the entire time. She got her wish and went home to recover on day 22. For the first 8 days, she appeared to get better. Then on day 9, her condition suddenly and dramatically worsened. Luckily, the children were visiting their Aunt and did not see their mother gasping for breath like a fish out of water.

The news at the ICU this time was not good. Her liver and kidneys were in failure. After six days, she was transported 5+ hours away to Houston Methodist, one of the best Liver transplant hospitals in the country. Today, we are waiting to hear whether or not she will receive a new liver. If not, her long-term prognosis is not good.

Thankfully, we have medical insurance, and they have agreed to pay for all medical transplant costs.

Our request is for help with the things that insurance will not help with or offer only partial help. Lodging for myself and our 2 toddlers, daycare, a nanny for the babies so I can focus on Candace and keeping my job, and an on-call registered nurse to spell me for a short period because the hospital staff indicate I cannot do this 100% of the time. The hospital staff also indicate she will need to be in Houston and close to the facilities for 5-8 months. Our monthly expenses that remain unreimbursed by insurance add up to $4850 for the above. Thus the $38,800 goal. These funds will help us keep the babies close to their mother and let their healing presence speed her to a full recovery. And no child should be without their mother.
