Hello everyone!
I am excited to inform you all that I will be moving to Casablanca, Morocco to teach English with AMIDEAST. This is a 9 month position that begins at the beginning of October 2015 until June 2016. I accepted the offer mid-September and I am extremely blessed to embark on this transformative life experience.
This past May, I graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a Bachelors of Arts in Anthropology and Italian Cum Laude with High Honors in Italian, along with a variety of other scholarly and community awards. From Sept 2013 to August 2014, I studied abroad in Bologna, Italy, where I became fluent in Italian by taking courses at the University of Bologna, interning with a local tourism agency, and volunteering with a public health services organization. I also received the Global Research Fellowship from Mount Holyoke College to conduct my own fully funded research project in Bologna.
Upon graduation, I decided to get my TESOL (Teachers to Speakers of Other Languages) Certificate from Mount Holyoke College. I have a deep desire to learn more about the world and myself through international opportunities. Within the next few years, I plan to get my Masters in Public Policy or Political Science. As a woman of color, I am deeply interested in providing support for students of color in their international endeavors. To continue my career in education, I hope to work in international affairs by advancing public policy in international education for students of color, such as by providing more opportunities and institutional support. My position with AMIDEAST is one of the first steps to accomplish my professional and personal goals.
To share a little information about AMIDEAST, they are a US not-for-profit that works to improve relations between the USA and Middle Eastern and North African communities through educational and development programs. AMIDEAST is an extremely reputable and well-known organization, as it is a partner and program of the US Embassy in Morocco and has received grants from organizations such as the Citi Foundation. I will be contracted as an English language instructor at AMIDEAST's Casablanca office.
I am currently working at a local supermarket to help me pay for my expenses until my first paycheck. I'd be extremely and blessed for any amount that you are willing to donate to my trip to Casablanca. The money would help me pay for my initial living expenses, such as apartment costs (first month down payment, rent, utilities), public transportation to and from work, and daily food costs. No matter what amount you donate, I will send you a personalized postcard from Morocco. I also welcome any prayers, spiritual support, and warm positive energy as I embark on this journey. I appreciate your support and kind wishes throughout my past endeavors, and I am extremely excited for my upcoming move to Casablanca!
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
Lots of love,
Candice Whitney
