Canoe Journey-Paddle to Muckleshoot 2023
Donation protected
Westshore Canoe Family is preparing for the annual Tribal Canoe Journey, this year is Paddle to Muckleshoot Canoe Journey. We will be traveling July 22-August 6, 2023. Totaling a family paddle of over 130 nautical miles. The journey brings together Tribes & First Nations peoples to learn, grow & heal together on the water in traditional canoes, while conducting ceremonial practices & teachings. This year over 70% of our family are youth, including four infants & five toddlers. This year’s journey is the first since the 2019 Paddle to Lummi due to the pandemic. Throughout the years Antone George & daughter Cheryl George, have fostered many indigenous peoples as an Inter-tribal canoe family who foster many in practicing our Coast Salish “Schelangen”, our “Way of life”. West shore canoe family plays a vital role in the coast Salish community by creating opportunities for Native Americans that do not have family to teach them traditional ways. The George family is a home for those who are seeking to go deeper with their ancestry, by practicing sacred traditions such as singing, dancing & paddling with a traditional canoe along Lummi Nation. West shore canoe family is grass roots, unaffiliated with any tribes. We are looking for sponsors & donors to support three generations of indigenous people to participate in the 2023 Paddle to Muckleshoot. Due to our amount of youth traveling in the family this summer we need additional funds. Westshore Canoe Family is honored to be a part of the Children of the Setting Sun Productions (CSSP) family offering cultural education through singing, dancing, & storytelling. CSSP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We need a significant of supplies to make a safe journey. We need support to feed our team during canoe practice where we gather twice a week, to prepare for the events, every week until canoe journey starts
