CANstruction Chicago HKS/B&A/FSE

How many times do we walk by a homeless person on the street and wonder how they got there, or how we might help?  Did you know that 1 out of 6 people in the Greater Chicagoland Area are served annually by the Greater Chicago Food Depository? Last year the GCFD distributed 72 million pounds of food through its network of 700 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, mobile kitchens, children’s programs, and older adult programs.  

This summer architecture firm HKS, general contractor Bulley & Andrews and Forefront Structural Engineers are collaborating to participate in Chicago’s Canstruction®!  This year marks the 12th Anniversary of the Canstruction® Chicago Competition benefiting the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Canstruction® is a design/build competition where teams composed of architecture, engineering, and construction firms compete by building gigantic structures made entirely from full cans of food. The exhibit will be on public display in the lobby of the Merchandise Mart from August 16 – September 9, 2018, after which the food will be donated to the food depository.  Last year Chicago’s Canstruction raised over 120,000 pounds of food. With your help we hope to exceed that number and bring even more meals to those who need them the most.

All donations will go towards feeding the hungry, as any money raised that we do not use towards our build will be donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository (a non-profit agency), and definitely be put to good use. Jen Chaplin is acting as the team beneficiary to collect donations.

We believe that sustained and effective commitments in the fight against hunger are created through partnerships.  Our design/build team goal is to provide $15,000 in food to the GCFD Depository.  In order to accomplish this goal, our team wants to lead the way by matching every donation made, up to $6,000. So for every dollar you contribute, a 200% yield will result.  Where else can you find that kind of return on your investment to fight hunger?

To show our appreciation of your help in the fight against hunger, your sponsorship will be recognized with your logo, company or individual name on a 20x30 inch board displayed adjacent to our structure during the public exhibit and included on our team t-shirt to be worn during the build and deCanstruction.
