Capacity building center for women

EN: Hi! We are a community of Salesian nuns and laic volunteers based since 27 years in the suburbs of Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.

EN: Our community is called City of Hope  and we host, feed and teach kids and young boys and girls, with an age from 5 to 22 years old, which have no family or that are in weak or poverty conditions.



IT: La nostra comunita' si chiama City of Hope  e qui ospitiamo, diamo da mangiare ed educhiamo bambini e ragazzi, di eta' compresa fra i 5 e i 22 anni, senza famiglia o che si trovano in condizioni di disagio e poverta'.

City of Hope is made of:

1- One Primary and Secondary School (and since this year also one nursery!) with 800 children from 5 to 18 years old

2- One Group Home for girls in troubles that at present hosts 36 your girls from 7 to 22 years old

3- One Vocational Training Centre with professional sewing, cooking, tour operator and information technology classes; we host about 100 students a year, mainly women (85%)

3- Un Centro di Formazione Professionale che offre corsi di cucito, di cucina, da operatore turistico e di information technology e si rivolge a circa 100 studenti all'anno, prevalentemente donne (85%)






EN: Seven years ago the construction of a NEW BUILDING inside the City of Hope has started. This new building would increase the number of young girls between 15 and 22 years of age that could be hosted and trained.

The new building is on 2 floors and will have 45 rooms, with housing, conference and training facilities.

It will host and professionally train 80 young women, giving them shelter, love and education and putting these young women in the best conditions to raise their self-trust and improve their skills in order to reach economic independence and social dignity, staying away from troubles and exploitation.



IT: Sette anni fa e' stata iniziata la costruzione di una NUOVA CASA all'interno di City of Hope per aumentare e migliorare l'accoglienza e la formazione delle giovani ragazze fra i 15 e i 22 anni. 

Questa nuova casa e' su 2 piani e avra' 45 stanze, con alloggi ed aule per lezioni e conferenze.

La casa permettera' di alloggiare e far crescere professionalmente 80 giovani donne, dandogli riparo, affetto ed educazione, facendo crescere la fiducia in loro stesse e nelle proprie capacita' e passioni, cosi' da potersi creare da sole un futuro migliore e raggiungere l'indipendenza economica ed una dignita' sociale che le tenga lontano da situazioni disagiate e di sfruttamento.











EN: Unfortunately 3 years ago the construction of the new building has been suspended for lack of funds, but last year , with the help of God and thanks to the economic support of the Institute of Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice and many friends and private donors, we managed to restart constructions.

The new building is already at a good stage and, with current funds we will shortly finish the ground floor!

But if we don't find additional funds soon, in a couple of months we will have to stop construction works again...

We need 115.000 eur more to completely finish the infrastructure, furnish the first floor and buy the professional equipment to host and train the new girls.

Any economic support, also a small one, will contribute to keep the construction site open and to complete the new Hosting and Training Center for Young Women in Lusaka, Zambia!

IT: Purtroppo 3 anni fa i lavori di costruzione della casa sono stati sospesi per mancanza di fondi, ma l'anno scorso con l'aiuto di Dio, e grazie al supporto economico dell'istituto delle Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice  e di quello di amici e conoscenti, siamo riusciti a riprendere i lavori.

La costruzione e' ormai gia' a buon punto e con i fondi attuali il piano terra sara' finito a breve! 

Ma se non troviamo al piu' presto altri fondi fra un paio di mesi dovremo nuovamente interrompere i lavori di costruzione...

Avremmo bisogno ancora di 115.000 euro per completare definitivamente la struttura, arredare il primo piano, comprare le attrezzature ed iniziare ad ospitare e formare nuove ragazze.

Qualsiasi vostro contributo economico, anche piccolo, ci aiutera' a tenere aperto il cantiere e completare nel piu' breve tempo possibile il centro di accoglienza e formazione per giovani donne a Lusaka in Zambia!
