Capacity building for rural children in Armenia

In 2024, OAF remains committed to developing and implementing a range of educational programs in rural or disadvantaged areas across Armenia. We are starting our 2024 crowdfunding to secure the financing of two well-established projects that we keep on enhancing to provide more opportunities and a wider positive impact.

2024 projects description

Books for Hope initiative
2024 budget: £ 4000

For Oxford Armenia Foundation, donating books to rural schools’ libraries is a mindful process of:
  • Discovering what children want to read and their interests outside the school curriculum.
  • Procuring a wide range of books from local Armenian publishing houses.
  • Building a national online platform of young readers’ reviews to promote social cohesion, inclusivity and civic dialogue.
  • Giving the opportunity to develop literacy and critical thinking in communities affected by conflict and poverty.
  • Providing the means to contribute to students’ development.
Following the success of engaging rural school children in 2023, the book donation program is entering its second year of partnership with Teach for Armenia.

Engage and Empower Summer program
2024 budget: £3000

Following the successful implementation of summer programs over the past three years, OAF will be running the 2024 Summer Camp bringing together 100 children from disadvantaged rural communities.
  • Our focus has been on arts and well-being, and we are planning to enhance our offering by integrating sports, computer literacy and digital skills.
  • Summer camps engage children who otherwise are home-bound with little to do over the three months of summer holidays. We mindfully develop various activities to reinforce well-being, social cohesion, capacity building and community engagement.
Total 2024 budget from crowdfunding: £7000

Who we are
Oxford Armenia Foundation (1193788) and Books for Hope Armenia are non-profit educational charities working together to strengthen the literacy, numeracy skills and well-being of children and young adults in rural schools and communities. We have a shared vision of enhancing educational opportunities for children in rural Armenia. We achieve our objectives by developing and implementing various educational programmes for vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the most socio-economically deprived and isolated areas of Armenia.
