Louis Capecci Memorial Fund

It is with a heavy heart that we have to put this page together. This story is about a brilliant doctor, incredible dad and husband, generous friend, and amazing man who was taken from his family and friends far too soon. It's nearly impossible to write "was" when talking about Lou, but we will do our best now that he has left us.

His life is something to be celebrated and this page will not do justice to the man that Lou was. He was a doting father and caring husband. Grey, Izzy, and Miriam were the loves of his life. Even though he worked long hours under extreme pressure, he was the rock in their family. He was a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon who cared deeply for his patients. Lou was the most committed and loyal friend and we consider ourselves lucky to have been in his orbit for most of our lives.

Lou was born with a congenital heart defect that required multiple open-heart surgeries before even his 1st birthday. This experience helped guide him toward medicine. After medical school Lou performed his residency in Pittsburgh and eventually landed in Palo Alto where he was a fellow in the prestigious Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University Hospital. He moved to Hawaii to become the first full time pediatric heart surgeon at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. Lou aspired to continue the great work of those who worked on him and those who trained him.

The intent of this page is to help fund Lou’s legacy, keeping his priorities and values in mind. The quintessential family man, Lou’s first priority was providing for the needs of his beloved wife and daughters. Beyond that, the fund will be used to advance Lou’s life work of caring for children with heart defects.
