New Domestic Violence Shelter
Tax deductible
The Cape Cod Center for Women (CCCW) is the only 24-7, confidential domestic violence shelter on Cape Cod and the Islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. CCCW is dedicated to assisting and supporting individuals and children in leaving a violent environment and transitioning into independent living with a lifelong safety plan and community support.
Since 2000, the Cape Cod Center for Women has provided a safe harbor for nearly 600 families fleeing domestic violence. Each day, we receive calls from police departments, hospitals, pediatrician offices, other shelters and social service agencies seeking emergency placement for families. As the only organization of its kind in the region, the CCCW is usually filled to capacity, and is therefore unable to accept additional clients -- even during the most dangerous of emergencies. The current shelter can only house 4 families at a time, leaving countless families in need.
No one should be turned away from help they so desperately need. To address this problem, the Cape Cod Center for Women must expand its capacity and programming to match the demand for services. The first step in this process will be the acquisition of a new, larger shelter for our clients. Currently, CCCW operates a 2,312 square foot, 4 bedroom and 3 bathroom safe house. A larger home will enable the Center to expand its services and increase the numbers of families served each year. A new house would also enable us to implement a new “High Risk” program. Through this program, rooms would be reserved exclusively for residents of Barnstable County and the Islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket who are fleeing the most dangerous domestic violence situations.
