Capital Campaign for Black-Owned Birth Center
Donation protected
BLKBRY has the vision, determination and opportunity to build something long-awaited and needed in Washington State. We are building a holistic wellness and birth center like no other. A center that's owned, led and operated by Black birth workers and shaped by the voices of the Black community to improve Black reproductive, perinatal and infant health outcomes and access to resources.
Inequitable access to capital is a barrier for birth center start-ups in communities of color. Most birth centers are for-profit businesses started by a single white midwife owner with personal income, loans, savings and family gifts. In addition, they drastically lack the culturally-congruent care Black families need.
BLKBRY has the amazing opportunity to rent a second suite to build a single-suite birth center on a multi-year lease, while we fundraise to purchase a building to permanently house BLKBRY. The purchase of a building will allow BLKBRY's continued growth, the expansion of a second birth suite and additional care services for the community.
BLKBRY is an LLC with a 501c3 non-profit fiscal sponsor. BLKBRY embraces shared leadership and a community-organizing approach to birth center development rooted in deep equity and meaningful partnerships.
It all comes down to Black birthing people deserve safe spaces to seek support and birth their littles. Plus, no one should have to decide between a safe culturally-aligned space and access to holistic culturally-congruent care.
Help BLKBRY get its permanent home. For more information, please check out the Capital Campaign webpage. You can also support BLKBRY by making a donation and sharing with your loved ones and community!
