Cappagh's Coastal Challenge for Charities
Donation protected
On the 18th of May, Cappagh GAA will kick off our ‘Coastal Challenge for Charities’. We have set the target of 3,141km, the length of Ireland’s coastline, to reach within two weeks. In doing this our aim is to raise €2,000 for four local charities:
1. Roar for Ruairi:
Ruairi McDonnell is a six-year-old boy from Clane who has been diagnosed with a very rare degenerative and life-limiting neurological condition. The campaign aims to raise funds to help the McDonnell family make the necessary renovations to their home and to help with the ongoing homecare costs for Ruairi. Many of our senior footballers and ex senior footballers will know Ruairi's dad Martin McDonnell, a Mayo man and a combative midfielder with Rathcoffey GAA with whom we have had many a battle over the past decade.
2. Dara Community Living:
Dara Community Living are a local charity who support men and women with intellectual disabilities to live independent and fulfilling lives. They are in urgent need of funds to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to allow their frontline staff continue to do the wonderful work they do and protect themselves and the people they support.
3. Lester Cassidy’s Croagh Patrick Climb:
Local man Lester had a life changing accident when he was only 19 which left him paralysed from the waist down. The National Rehabilitation Hospital and Spinal Injuries Ireland played a huge part in Lester’s recovery and rehabilitation. Lester is setting out to raise funds for both organisations by climbing Croagh Patrick in his wheelchair.
4. Newtown/Donadea Senior Citizens:
The weekly club held in Newtown Hall provides an opportunity for the local young at hearts to socialise and gives them something to look forward to each week. This club relies on donations to keep it running. Our older local population have had a tough time over the last few months, so we think this is the best way to support them!
To get involved:
Commit to running 30km or walking 20km over the two weeks - 10km for our younger members.
Send a screenshot of your tracked run or your post-run selfies with your details to our ‘Challenge Ambassadors’, our social media pages or tag ‘@CappaghGAAKildare’ and use the hashtag ‘#CCC4C’ on your own posts.
Donate to ‘Cappagh’s Coastal Challenge for Charities” on GoFundMe!
Don’t forget to get your friends and relatives both near and far involved!
Thank you for your donation!
(The total sum raised will be split equally between the four charities.)
