Capt. Hard Times Needs Your Help

Donation protected
On Tuesday night, a Chatham restaurant that has been the backbone of 79th Street for decades was burglarized -- costing the family-run business about $10,000 in damage.

Josephine Wade, known as "Mother Wade" in the neighborhood is more than a business owner -- and her restaurant is more than a place for great chicken and waffles (although they are the best). Wade and her son Victor Love are role models for residents, visitors, and other businesses in the area. She represents the great things Chatham has to offer, and welcomes everyone to her business with open arms.

Captain Hard Times might be hidden in the greater context of Chicago, but Mother Wade is a beacon of hope for the entire city.

Since the burglary of copper wiring, the restaurant at 436 E. 79th St. has been preparing meals by flashlight to keep the business running.

If you can kick in a few bucks to help Captain Hard Times get the wiring replaced, you'll be helping save a community institution. Mother Wade has always been there for us, let's step up for her.
