Hi my name is Melissa Guerra and I’m fundraising for my dad Jose Luis guerra.
My dad recently had a pontine brain stroke 9/13/22 and I had to fly out to El Paso on an emergency not knowing what I was walking into and that I would be out there for almost two months. When I arrived at his house, I found my uncle there with him and he shared that he had found my dad on the floor with broken side table in his living area. I thought surely this can’t be right. How could the hospital possibly discharge my dad under these conditions. First off he was not mobile, left side was slumped and his talking with such a big slur to even understand him. I said dad I’m no doctor but clearly you had some kind of stroke. This instantly made me upset and I called the hospital and complained and said it’s sad that just because my father had no one to advocate for him and he says he’s ok y’all send him home, knowing darn well he’s in no shape for that. Fast forward, my sister made it to El Paso, to help with our dad. I called his pcp made an appointment and a few days later we saw her and she was shocked to see my dad the way he was and sent us back immediately to the ER. We were there for about two weeks, where they then determined he had had the stroke, then onto rehabilitation center he went. I requested FMLA and was there by my dads side in the ER, as my sister was too before she had to return to work. My sister got a few things situated and was also trying to get answers. It was tough, it was sad, it was discouraging, there were times.. I felt helpless while seeing him in therapy. He started adapting more to his OT, PT, and speech therapy while in progress. As the doctor telling me once you decide to move him, you’ll have to start all over. I instantly felt like fainting.. I said all over , so no referrals nothing at all and he said that’s right. I said, Lord continue to give me peace, wisdom, patience as well as strength for my dad and myself and healing over his body and discernment in the choices to come. Fast forward my dad was finally discharged praise Jesus and back to my home we came. My sister arrived back to help transport his belongings and help in anyway. I quickly had to become my dads power of attorney, care provider, nurse, therapist, home heath and in the midst still be his daughter. I’m just so thankful that he’s still alive and here and that Jehovah has not left my dads side most importantly and that he’s healing him little by little and showing him favor in his recovery but now.. I’m crying out for help. Having to start over with drs here and the VA as he served in the ARMY Veteran and always talks about wishing he would have served longer and really me getting like barely any pay and using what little my dad receives has been hard to live on. At this point in life I’m just humble enough to say that even in the darkness of times Jehovah truly is my soul provider. Gods promises are real. My dad and I appreciate any help given on the road to his recovery and this new life we are now living. May God bless you and thank you.
