Emergency support - Lost job due to a health issue
Donation protected
Heya. I'm Cal. I'm a 27-year-old mental health professional and multi-media artist.
I most recently worked as a case manager in a residential crisis mental health facility. I worked with adults with severe, persistent mental health conditions and I loved my job, my clients, and the work I was doing.
In the past year or so, I developed a sleep disorder which has been getting progressively worse. It got to the point where I was falling asleep during the day at times, even though I was going to sleep early and getting 10+ hours of sleep a night.
On top of my other health conditions, this significantly impacted my ability to keep up with documentation. I was working with a sleep specialist and other health professionals to address my issues, but it didn't happen quickly enough for my employer.
On February 9th, I was fired from my job for not submitting my paperwork within a 72 hour time frame - despite the fact that I was awaiting FMLA paperwork from my health provider for much needed medical leave, was ignored on my requests for reasonable accommodations, and that our team had been understaffed for months, leading to a drastic increase in the amount of paperwork I had to complete.
I've been applying for jobs and for social services like SNAP and Medicaid, but haven't had any luck with anything so far. I have less than $25 left in my bank account. I can't afford my psychiatric or diabetes medications, not to mention my groceries, rent, pet food, medical bills, car payment, and credit card bills.
Donations will be used for:
Rent $400/month
Car Payment $200/m
Groceries not covered by EBT (~$40/m)
Medications ($205 so far, unsure of future costs)
Pet care ($47/m for Rx cat food, $12/m for cat food for ferals I feed, $22 for litter, $12/m rat food, $110 for sorely needed medication for the rats)
And for general living expenses, gas, and security until I can find employment
Since I lost my health insurance, my health care has been delayed even further. I still have this undiagnosed, untreated sleep disorder and it is still significantly disrupting my life.
It's really difficult and frankly demoralizing to make this fundraiser, but unfortunately I really can't stay afloat on my own. Any help is so greatly appreciated. Please feel free to check out my art as well, and reach out if you would like to commission me! Thanks so much for reading.
