My name is Rebecca, and I am fundraising for CARA Projects, where I plan to volunteer in Jan 2024. As some might know I have been fundraising for CARA Projects for some years now and it is an organisation I feel very passionate about.
CARA Projects is an Irish founded internationally registered non-governmental organisation (CHY18652/20071981). CARA Projects runs and supports The CARA Girls Rescue Centre outside Nairobi, Kenya.
CARA strives to promote women’s empowerment through vocational training, health promotion, education, gender equality, economic empowerment, and sustainable development, with a targeted focus on child protection. CARA Girls Rescue Centre is NOT an orphanage, but a centre that offers safe shelter and support for young girls where female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage are of greatest concern. CARA works closely with the local child protection office in the area.
CARA relies solely on donations, in particular two volunteer trips each year which help fund the centre, and each year, there are many expenses that come with running the centre, such as wages, maintenance, lighting, heating, clothing, food and education.
I intend to volunteer at the CARA Girls Rescue Centre in January 2024, to see first-hand the work CARA Projects is doing both in the CARA Girls Rescue Centre and within the local community. Some of the work previous volunteers have participated in are the upkeep of the centre which includes painting, general maintenance, delivering food parcels to families in the wider area and offering both emotional and practical support to the girls and children in the centre. All funds raised will go directly to the running of the centre - there are no administration fees or salaries taken by any Irish staff or volunteers. It would be greatly appreciated if you could please share this fundraiser, and any donation big or small makes a difference and is so much appreciated.
