♥️Care for Colby and the Carpenters♥️

In February 2023, shortly before his 12th birthday, Colby began to look pale, tired and unwell. Upon admittance to Children's Mercy Hospital, his parents, Mary and Aaron, learned that his red blood cell counts were dangerously low and he would need a blood transfusion immediately. After a series of tests, Colby was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, a rare, but serious blood disorder that happens when something damages your bone marrow so it can't make enough new blood cells and platelets.

Over the past 12 months, Colby has had 18 blood transfusions and many hospital visits. He has tried two steroid treatments and an immunotherapy treatment, to no avail. The next step is now a bone marrow transplant, scheduled to take place in the coming weeks. His father, Aaron, will be his donor.

Two weeks prior to admission to the hospital, Colby will isolate to keep him in fighting condition for his journey. Once he is admitted, he will begin 10 days of chemotherapy, radiation, and medication. He will remain in the hospital 4-6 weeks after the bone marrow transplant and will be in the hospital for 6-8 weeks total. During this time, his mom will be taking an unpaid leave of absence from her job to care for Colby and his dad, a road warrior, will be working from home, caring for their other children.

Asking for help is hard, but Colby, Mary and Aaron could really use some financial assistance during this most difficult time. In an effort to help the Carpenter family during this difficult time, Mary and Aaron's extended family have come together to ask for your support. Anything you can give to help the family would be so very appreciated. They are truly the kindest, most loving, giving people you will ever meet.
