Nicky’s Kidney Transplant- My sisters post op care
Donation protected
Hi my name is Janelle. My little sister's name is Nickesha. She is a loving, vibrant young lady, whose life had been crippled by a series of health issues. Nickesha has Down's Syndrome, and that never stopped her from shining bright. However, in 2001 Nickesha was diagnosed with Kidney Failure. After 6 months of dialysis, she was given 6 months to live. Without a 2nd thought, I decided to help my innocent little sister and donated a kidney to her. This allowed her to go back to living. After 10 years of a healthier life, unfortunately the kidney developed scar tissue, and here she was back on dialysis and now on a 7 year wait list for a new kidney. Well this past Tuesday, 8 years later, we finally got the call- THEY HAVE AN ORGAN!
Within 4 hours our bags were packed and we were headed to Miami Transplant Institute at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Nickesha received her new Kidney Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. She is in ICU recovery, and doing well.
At this time, we have started this fund to help my mother cover the unforeseen costs and expenses associated with having to take an unplanned and unpaid leave of absence to be with Nickesha during this time and to provide around the clock care as required fo the next 3 months. We are asking for your support at this time. One of the most critical things that we have learned about transplant surgery is providing PROPER care, and especially with Nickesha having downs syndrome, it is absolutely necessary. We appreciate your support at this time, and ask that you send prayers of healing and speedy recovery for Nickesha!
