Care Fund for Tenyjah Pre-Surgery
Donation protected
My dear friend, fellow artist and collaborator Tenyjah McKenna is suffering a major health collapse while awaiting high-risk surgery. Tenyjah is facing housing and food insecurity after several months of declining health, feeling unable to work, or seek out new employment.
With the support of friends, Tenyjah has been actively seeking out financial support through government channels, with no success. At this final emergent hour, its time to call in community to help cover these costs for Tenyjah.
Tenyjah is in urgent need of funds to pay for rent August 1, and to continue to pay their bills for the next 3 months. They anticipate being out of work until at least October while they await major surgery (date unconfirmed). They have been advised that a forthcoming CT scan could lead to emergency surgical action, leaving Tenyjah with little time to prepare or resource themselves for the recovery process when the CT scan date arrives.
Tenyjah is a local artist, youth-worker, and human rights advocate whose positive impact in the Victoria Theatre sector has been immeasurable, and important to the growth happening and still required for Black and disabled artists to feel belonging in the city.
Let's help this wonderful friend, community member, and youth-worker rest a bit easier as they prepare to face these difficult oncoming medical processes.
All funds will go directly Tenyjah to resource them, and secure their housing and living costs for the next 3 months.
Costs needed as of Aug 1
$1300/month rent
$400/month bills
$600/month food
