Care for Kidane Mehret

Three years ago we began our journey to adopt in Ethiopia after personal losses caused us to reflect on the gift of a child in our lives. We went to a country with great need; children have lost families due to poverty and extreme hunger, and of course HIV and tuberculosis.

We were matched with our sweet baby girl, Arsema June, several weeks ago. She is 5 months old and is at Kidane Mehret orphanage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She will remain there, under the care of dedicated nuns and volunteers, until we can pick her up in early 2016.

Currently a severe drought in Ethiopia is causing babies and children to be relinquished, in large numbers.

June came in to care with 9 other babies.

These children are undernourished, often severely so. Their greatest need currently, besides love, is food. In the case of babies, they need formula and more of it.

Tim and I will travel to Ethiopia and will likely be there for 3 weeks in 2016. We will hand carry all the supplies we can take - formula, medical supplies, diapers, diaper rash creme and clothing.
