Caregiver sole provider out with injury

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Gina. I have been the sole provider for my family since my husband, Jon, had a serious and unexpected stroke two years ago due to an anomaly with his heart that no one knew about before the stroke. I am also his full-time caregiver and a mom to three amazing kids. To make this all work, I recently changed jobs and enrolled our kids into a full-time daycare so I could work overtime and my husband could have breaks during the day, which he needs as part of his rehabilitation.

This was already an exhausting and precarious situation – Jon’s disability, which isn’t even enough to cover our rent, took 13 months to get, and he has been unable to work or care for the children since his stroke. I was working myself to the bone and we were still behind.

Recently, I got a stress injury on the job and am now unable to work at all until I heal. Because I'm new to this job, I don’t qualify for any short-term disability payments, or have any sick leave or vacation time. My foot is in an air cast right now and we are still not sure how long it will take to heal or if I will need surgery to fix it. I’ve lost all of my income with no idea when I will be able to go back.

My children’s school is $1,752 per month and our rent is $1,260 per month. My children need to be in this school because they have needs related to autism and delayed speech. These and other expenses are not covered by my husband’s disability payments. We are quickly falling into a drastic and frankly terrifying financial situation. We are behind on rent, I had to get a loan for a second car when I first one’s engine died and I wasn’t able to get out of it and can’t afford the repairs. I’ve been busting my butt and working as many hours as they were willing to give and this injury was completely unexpected.

Any help would be tremendous and put our minds at ease to know we can keep the roof over our heads, food in their stomachs, and the kids being in a good school routine that they need. I know this is a stretch goal but this amount of money will help us to catch up on backdue rent and to be able to pay rent and expenses for the next few months while I heal and get back to work.

Whatever you can do to help my family is greatly appreciated. It is hard for me to ask for help but I am really scared and I want to do whatever I can to protect my family. Thank you so much for your help, whether you were able to donate or if you shared this link on social media.
